Weekly Progress #23

What's New

Last week was a pretty productive week for Xenosea. I started out with some UI and control improvements for weapons. This includes a cleaner UI for turrets and torpedoes, as well as systems to prevent accidental shooting. Following that I did a pass on all of the turret, ammo, and torpedo types. I renamed almost all of them to have more thematic and interesting names. I also added some new turret and torpedo types.

New torpedoes include:

  • The Arbalest, a slower, heavier, longer ranged torpedo for hitting large targets at a distance.
  • The Hammer, a short range torpedo. More like a bomb with mobility than a torpedo.
  • The Stalker, a pirate torpedo, slightly slower and harder hitting than the standard military torpedo.

New turret types include:

  • Hellstorm, a turret that fires volleys of armor piercing rocket darts. Takes skill to aim, but very satisfying.
  • MTTS, a turret that launches self homing mini torpedoes. Useful for hitting agile targets, but a high risk for friendly fire incidents.

What's Next

Yesterday I wrote up a some script for an short campaign introduction, and started working on setting it up in game. This will add a little bit of context to the start of a campaign, and set up an optional tutorial. I expect to have it done in a week or two. Following this my focus will be to start fleshing out the world, starting with Northburg. This will entail additional characters and dialogue, and some quests. This will include adapting the existing Fate of the Fitzgerald quest, as well as some new ones.
